Stress vs Burnout

"I've got it, no problem!' that's the common refrain..time after time. One request leads to another, and then another. The feeling of need and should creep in. Once we realize its too much, it is often a bit too late, and the burnout is already coming in hot.

"How do I know if I'm starting to get burned out, or if I'm just stressed?"

According to the experts, burnout is a state of chronic stress that exceeds the typical levels of stress we encounter on a daily basis.

What differentiates burnout from stress are a few things, the first of which I'll mention here today:

The word chronic says it all. It is far more than the rough patch that we experience at work (or outside of work, for that matter - you can be burned out by many areas of life). Burnout is that prolonged experience of exhaustion - mental, physical, emotional - that has a huge impact on our productivity, motivation, physical health, sense of self, and just overall well-being.

I'll continue to curate information and resources about burnout - how to recognize signs and prevent, manage through if you are already there, and come out on the other side of burnout.
